Thursday, Feb 16 2012 07:00

Mount Royal University is proud to present this special evening focusing on the serious topic of human trafficking.

Keynote address: Yvon Dandurand, a leading international expert in human trafficking and criminal justice.

Yvon Dandurand is a professional criminologist with extensive experience in research, policy development, and program management and evaluation in support of criminal law reform, human rights, and the rule of law. Haunted by anguished voices, a lawyer poses as a john to build a legal case against a brothel trafficking girls into Bangkok. The seeds of the play were planted when an abandoned storage container containing 121 workers from Burma, 54 of them dead, was found in Thailand in 2008. She Has a Name premiered in Calgary and Red Deer to sold-out audiences and critical acclaim in 2011 and is touring Canada during 2012.

Book signing: Human Trafficking: Exploring the International Nature, Concerns, and Complexities, edited by: John Winterdyk, Benjamin Perrin and Philip Reichel.

Dr. Winterdyk is the Director of Mount Royal University’s Centre for Criminology Justice Research. He has published extensively in the areas of criminological theory, youth at risk, corrections and criminal justice-related issues, as well as on a host of comparative themes.

Saturday, Jun 20 2009 12:00

Ghost River Theatre and Invisible Elephant Performance proudly present the world premiere of “Something to do with Death” at the Vertigo Studio Theatre from June 20th to June 28th, 2009. The play is a fable for the new west inspired by the ‘spaghetti western” films of Sergio Leone. The story is set against the backdrop of an encroaching railway, of great forces vying to shape the contours of this new land, and a slain hero resurrected by ancient gods to avenge a tragic past. So, put on your cowboy hat and get ready for a gun-slinging, pulse-pounding tale of vengeance, renewal and rugged perseverance. Audience advisory: violence, course language, and adult themes. Suitable for 18+. Ghost River Theatre Society is a nationally acclaimed theatre company based in Calgary. We are the only professional theatre company in Calgary that creates, develops and produces new work exclusively. Evening performances are at 8:00 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. www.GhostRiverTheatre.com 403-263-0079

A mommy Fair!

Friday, May 29 2009 06:09

The popular adage is true: find a job you are passionate about,
and you’ll never work a day in your life. The ladies who partake
in these events are first and for most moms, who have in fact found
something they are passionate about. So much so that they have
started their own businesses and now want everyone to know what
drives them. So we used this energy and started the “Mommy Fair”.
These fairs are designed to help local entrepreneurial moms gain
exposure and a larger cliental base, ultimately to expand their
company. These are free events so please come and join us and
see what we have been up to!
